Research Spotlight: Trust and New/Emerging Technologies

Cornell researchers are interested in the role of trust in shaping perceptions of NSE.  Trust has been a growing concern in risk communication research for some time, as well as part of a much broader movement toward investigating this concept by disciplines across the social sciences. It also figures centrally in organizational justice research, as the perceived trustworthiness of authorities can influence perceptions of fairness. This work seeks to extend research on trust and organizational justice into the realm of new and emerging technologies. Research examines audience attitudes toward scientists engaging in nanotechnology, as well as scientists’ attitudes toward the public.
